Main Content
Portland Montessori Collaborative, or pdxMC is a Montessori pre-school in Portland, Oregon. We are a year round school offering four and five day schedules for full and part day care. We boast wholesome meals cooked on site, trained and experienced staff, a commitment to environmental sustainability, and a thoughtful outdoor curriculum. Our school is a wonderful nurturing place to learn and grow.
Infants
The environment for our tiniest learners is lovingly prepared by teachers who value the importance of consistency in care between home and school. This commitment is evidenced by our exemplary ratio of three infants to one educator/carer. The classroom is staffed by experienced and knowledgeable adults who have profound understanding and compassion for the youngest child.
Toddlers
Our toddler program is a blended age program serving the developmental needs of children from walking well/one mid day nap through at least three years of age. Our toddler program, rooted in hands on exploration, is a wonderful foundation for our pre-school, or Primary classrooms. In our toddler communities, children have opportunities to connect with other children and adults, wash, scrub, play, garden, and eat with an emphasis on self help skills, like learning how to dress, undress, and use the toilet.
Children’s House
Our Montessori Primary or Children’s House is for children three through six years of age. Children are encouraged to stay through kindergarten. In our classroom, or Casa, children move freely and choose activities based on their interest and ability. The certified Montessori teacher, or ‘Guide’ observes the children, and matches each child to activities that they believe will meet the child’s unique developmental needs.
Equal Opportunity
The Portland Montessori Collaborative values and celebrates diversity. The Portland Montessori Collaborative is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all persons and does not discriminate on the basis of ability, race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or religion.
Our program goals include:
Supporting the natural development of children
Supporting the development of self regulation
To instill a life long love of learning
To be a support for working families

We are guided by the values of:

Our mission is to provide a loving and nurturing space for children to explore, grow, learn, and connect with other children and adults in the context of the Montessori philosophy and pedagogy. We offer an adaptive approach to early childhood education; an authentic Montessori program inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia and moved by the philosophy and teachings of Magda Gerber.
