Ly Skaar first came to pdxMC in 2016 as our whole school support staff. In February of 2018, she joined the Gardenside teaching team. Ly has over six years of experience in childcare settings as a residential and in-home direct support provider and has worked with seniors, adults, and children experiencing a wide array of mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. Ly worked for the Department of Human Service (DHS) Child Welfare Division and as an intern with DHS Child Protective Services. She also had life-changing experiences as a counselor at Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, where she now spends time each summer singing campfire songs and visiting with campers. Ly has a bachelor of social work degree from Portland State University and an associate’s degree with a major in psychology from Portland Community College. In 2018 Ly received a certificate from The Center for Guided Montessori studies for completion of the Montessori fundamentals course.
In her spare time, Ly is an artist with an affinity for pen and ink as well as clay. She loves traveling and adventure, swimming, watching Hindi films, discovering new brunch spots, and spending time with friends and family.
